At registration new swimmers should register based upon their age. Following evaluations, swimmers will be placed into their training groups and either pay or receive a credit for the new grouping. Post initial-eval grouping is not age restrictive, but ability based. For example, some 9/10 year olds may be in the Silver group, whereas another 10 year old may be placed in the White group.
Occasionally, swim lessons at the YMCA are recommended prior to joining the swim team.

Silver
At registration 5-8 years old.
After initial evaluations, minimum criteria:
1. Can swim one lap without stopping and/or grabbing the lane line or wall.
2. The stroke has to be recognizable freestyle according to the coaches’ judgment. Just kicking/floating on the back, swimming doggy paddle, or under water won’t cut it. We are looking for some above water arm coordination while moving across the pool.
3. Requires significant coaching direction and instruction.

Red
At registration 9/10 years old.
After initial evaluations, minimum criteria:
Can swim two or more competitive strokes without disqualifying.
Can swim 2-4 laps straight.
Can complete short sets based upon regular time increments at a slower pace.

White
At registration 11/12 years old
After initial evaluations, minimum criteria:
Can swim all the competitive strokes.
Is ready for full practices and training regimen.
Can complete longer sets based upon regular time increments at a faster pace.

Blue
At registration 13-21 years old.
After initial evaluations, minimum criteria:
Can swim all the competitive strokes.
Is ready for more intense practices and training regimen.
Can complete longer sets based upon regular time increments at a faster pace.
Competes at a significantly higher level than White group members.

High School: At registration, must be attending high school.
Will train in either the White or Blue group lanes depending upon ability and endurance levels.
